Aviary Myna Review-ish

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Aviary Myna EffectsI gave Aviary Myna a shot and I wasn’t overly excited. I don’t doubt that the application will improve, but for me there are some limitations that didn’t make my experience optimal.

The design looks good and the concept is great. You have access to tons of loops, sounds, music, etc. and Aviary Myna allows you to share your music very easily. If you upload a file you can choose the licensing type you prefer, tag the sound file so others may find it (if you want them to), add a description, tempo, and more. When you save your project and create a ‘mixdown’ you can easily copy the code to embed in your social site, blog, web page, or any other places that you can paste the code into; including downloading to your computer. You can even share your session so others can edit it.

I said I was going to have a YouTube clip, but it wasn’t really that interesting. Instead I used Myna’s mixdown code and dropped the tune in the post.

So you’re wondering why I wasn’t so… “excited” . I may be crazy, but I wasn’t able to select multiple wavs and drag them around. They had to be done one by one. For me, if I’m working with a bunch of loops it’s be nice to be able to move multiple wavs. Not only that, but if I cut my recording apart, maybe there was an odd sound in the background, I’d have to, again, move each file individually. There are ways around it, but I just wanted some simple, fast, and fun. I was going to attempt to record some stuff, but I didn’t find enough excitement to do any more with the software.

Overall, though, and I want to come across in a positive fashion, I like the app and I think it’s useful. I’m hoping Aviary can provide me a decent lashing, maybe I’m just doing everything wrong. Really when it comes down to it, I didn’t spend that much time with the software. You should try it out yourself and leave a comment with some feedback as well.

I call this creation, “Too much ice cream”, and was inspired by a vision of eating way too much sugar then losing control of certain concentration… as you will probably notice.

Too much ice cream.egg on Aviary.

WolframTonesI love when I read something that I have no idea what it’s talking about. I’m sure it’s not too hard to grab the concept, but when you’re just trying to find a simple explanation and it’s not very simple, well, … here we are.

WolframTones works by taking simple programs from Wolfram‘s computational universe, and using music theory and Mathematica algorithms to render them as music.” Now here’s a very basic explanation, you can use WolframTones to generate music in various styles and genres. I don’t want you to think the program is really as simple as I describe, it’s significantly more impressive by design. I’m just making an attempt for the fast reader.

Take a moment of your time and head over to Wolfram and “find your music in the computational world”. You can even download it, always a plus.

Audiotools aren’t just people you know…

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Some people are audio tools and some people have audio tools. This intro is somewhat pointless, but in a sense it helps me get to my point. And no, it’s not that I am a tool… silly goose.

Hobnox.com Audiotool, you heard of it? Well if you haven’t, you definitely should. I created a short video, so you can see what I’m talking about.

… and hey, let’s just say you don’t feel like getting so serious. Then why not make your way over to Sheep Beats?
