Victory’s Band Showdown

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

TENSETENSE, winner of the Victory’s Band Showdown.

Here are some clips and pics from the Victory’s Band Showdown on August 29th.

To give you a quick background on the event:

4 bands were chosen to perform based on electronic fan voting on GigMaven’s Facebook App. The winner received $250, a paid featured gig at Victory’s, a podcast with GigMaven, and a featured blog post on the GigMaven Blog.

After each band performed I recorded the reaction of the crowd with a decibel reader. Then, at the end of the night I asked the audience to scream for the band they wanted to win and I recorded the decibel level once again for each band. I had to put on my thinking cap and add all the numbers up. Second grade math finally came in handy after all!

TENSE ended up the winner of the Victory’s Band Showdown with a total of 236.8 decibels.

    TENSE: 236.8
    The Clay Peterson Project: 229.6
    Lackluster: 224.0
Help Is On The Way: 223.6

In the end, the fans had a great time, I had a great time, and a few of the musicians told me the audience was great and they appreciated the opportunity to perform.

It was our pleasure.

BriHi District Event: 1 of 5

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

The Historic Dublin Business Association in Dublin, Ohio (basically Columbus, Ohio) hosts a local concert series on the third Thursday of each month throughout the summer. They use GigMaven’s web app to exclusively book their artists online.

I attended the event for the first time and was actually quite impressed with the support from the community. The performing artists, Jon Hayes and Lackluster, Chris Ray and A Little of Your Time, and Austin Steele performed for a large number of attendees who strolled by, enjoyed dinner on the patios, had a beer or two (or three… or four…), or were dropped off directly at the performers location by the trolley.

Although I showed up about an hour late into the event, I was getting updates from the local alternative station CD101 that also attended and broadcast from the event.

If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth the while to attend and listen to some music.

If you are a band and want to perform for the next event, go HERE!

GigMaven Podcast: Lackluster

Monday, May 11th, 2009
Although, my second podcast posted, this was my first podcast recorded. I had the opportunity to speak with Jon from Lackluster. They had some crazy experiences with power continuously turning on and off during a live performance with lighting and rain. Also, Jon does web design, so check out of his personal web site www.lacklusterband.com. As a heavy DIY band learning something new does not scare them, rather motivates them because of their hard working attitude.
There’s plenty more to learn about Lackluster, like Jon’s favorite animal, so take a listen below.
